About Me
My name is Nicole Thompson, but my students at New Berlin West call me "Señorita." I grew up in New Berlin, Wisconsin and attended Eisenhower High School! I started learning Spanish as a freshman and after graduation I attended Marquette University to earn my Bachelor of Science Degree in Spanish and Middle/Secondary Education. During my time at Marquette I was a volunteer ESL teacher at a non-profit in Milwaukee, Milwaukee Achiever, and also worked for the Service Learning Program.
I studied abroad in Madrid, Spain for one semester at La Universidad Complutense. I lived with a host family, volunteered at La Comisión Fulbright and La Escuela Infantil Nubes in a 3-year-old preschool classroom. I also spent two weeks in rural Guatemala volunteering with Engineers Without Borders where we worked on an electrification project. Finally, I spent a summer studying indigenous culture and literature in Quito, Ecuador.
After I graduated from Marquette, I worked as a Spanish teacher in a few districts including Muskego and West Bend and was fortunate to receive a scholarship from Rotary which allowed me to also spend the 2013 calendar year in Salta, Argentina pursuing my master's degree in Language Sciences at the Universidad Nacional de Salta. I have gone on adventures around the world and visited many Spanish-speaking countries and love incorporating my stories and photos into class.

This is now my third year at New Berlin West. This coming year I am teaching Spanish 2, 4 and 5 (CAPP) and am so excited to learn along with my students. My hope is that my students will be able to become proficient in Spanish and develop a love for the language thanks to rich, fun activities in class and the use of proficiency-based assessment. and alignment with the following standards. Beyond teaching, I am also the Talented and Gifted Coordinator for New Berlin West, the Advisor for Capítulo El Sol, our chapter of Spanish Honors Society, and I also coach our Academic Decathlon team. I also enjoy attending conferences, like WAFLT, CSCTFL and AATSP and am a life-long learner, always striving to gain new knowledge and skills.
